November 5

Ran the engine and checked the electronics on the wheel. Everyone working on their boats started looking and pointing.

Then I took all of the covers off the windows. But by midday I realized its way too hot with them off, and everyone can see inside the boat. So I put them all back on. Going to wait a few more days until I take them off again.

Went swimming and dind some tricep exercises. I've got into the habit of swimming laps every other day. Then I showered off by the pool.

Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade 2008 Videos

Here is some video I shot at the Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade a day or so ago.  This was shot at the end of Marine Ave looking out into the harbor.  If you are not up on this event their web site describes it as:

Beautiful multi-million dollar yachts, kayaks, canoes and other small boats will light up the harbor as a dazzling array of holiday lights and music fill the air at the Christmas Boat Parade. Many of the boats will be richly decorated with animated Christmas scenes accompanied by music and costumed carolers. Some boat owners in the past have spent over $50,000 to decorate their vessels for the event. The Christmas floats will wind their way some 14 miles around the harbor to give viewers in restaurants, yacht clubs, on public beaches, and in private homes an incredible sight that has delighted millions of people for a century.

Ben and Melody's Wedding

Our friends Ben and Melody had there wedding here in St. Martin this past week. It was a beautiful and fun event held in many locations over the island. The wedding itself was held at Mullet Bay. Earlier in the week the wedding party and their guests were treated to a great meal at Valentino's, and after a party at Jimbo's. The wedding reception was held at Bliss where we had a buffet style dinner. Below are some of the pictures we took during these events. The slide show should start automatically if not click below.  Below the still picture slide show are a few movies we took as well.  Enjoy!

I am happy to speak very frankly about sailing, living aboard, living in the Caribbean, leaving the US system, or any other topic you want to discuss. I have watched many people come and go from boating in the time I have been living aboard, both those living on smaller boats and those living on 110 foot mega yachts. It seems that many people come expecting tropical paradise and are shocked to find paradise is not always what you see in the pictures but includes some mosquitoes, huge bugs, poverty, stray dogs, crime, drugs, and many other problems left out of the tourist photos.
