Off for St. Croix

We left for St. Croix around 0600, this got is in around noon and the anchor down about an hour later. We snooped the harbor looking for a good anchorage spot, but due to all of the abandoned and local boats it was a tough find. In the afternoon we went in to main town, Christiansted, to explore. We were pretty dead, and there were not a lot of people anywhere on the waterfront or the down town area. We had lunch at a health food place then had dinner later. As we were dead sleepy it was off to bed early!

Successful Trip to Megan's Bay!

Today we got up early and worked then worked out.  After this we headed out for for Magen's Bay on the boat.  On the way we saw a couple dolphins who swam with the boat for quite some time.  Later we arrived to the beautiful, famous beach.  Here we swam to shore and stayed for a few hours.  The local beach patrol, who would show no identification, ran us off the beach for having a dog.  After some words with them we again headed out and left St. Thomas and sailed back to St. John.  The plan for the next day was to head south to St. Croix.  On the way to St. John we caught a Mackeral (lunch) and a huge Barracuda (released).  Again we anchored again in Caneel Bay.

Today we did some boat work in the morning, and then worked out again at Paradise gate. Later in the day we tried to get over the hill to Megan's Bay but..... never managed to get there.

Today we worked out again and then rode bikes in St. Thomas more.  We explored the downtown area and also in the French Town section.  Later in the afternoon we went on a bus, ferry, walk, ferry, bus marathon.  All of a bathing suit that was in Cruz Bay St. John!  We took the bus to Redhook and took a ferry back over to St. John as we needed to visit a store there!  Then the reverse trip coming back.  It was not a wast of time, the bus tour was great as we got to see the interior of the island.

Paradise Gate - St. Thomas

Continuing our search for a proper gym to work out in we got up early today and found the gym in Paradise Gate.  This is just at the end of the cruise ship area, a bit of work to get to but a nice gym.  Funny the gym has a bar (with beer), a arcade, and a internet cafe all on the same grounds.  Weights and Booze!  Here we worked  out then headed back to the boat for lunch.  Later in the afternoon we rode bikes to explore another gym that was in the Antilles school.  This was a horrible bike ride up the steepest roads possible to find.  Legs burning we found the gym.  After looking here we then went to the Marriott and saw their gym.  We came back tired after lots and lots of hill climbs riding the bikes.

I am happy to speak very frankly about sailing, living aboard, living in the Caribbean, leaving the US system, or any other topic you want to discuss. I have watched many people come and go from boating in the time I have been living aboard, both those living on smaller boats and those living on 110 foot mega yachts. It seems that many people come expecting tropical paradise and are shocked to find paradise is not always what you see in the pictures but includes some mosquitoes, huge bugs, poverty, stray dogs, crime, drugs, and many other problems left out of the tourist photos.
