This boat was listed with a local broker. Upon finding this boat I arranged a meeting with the broker. Upon meeting I learned that the broker was also the owner, so we got a nice tour with first hand knowledge. There are three core models - the Pan Oceanic 38, 43, and 46. The boats have a distinctive pilot house / flush deck appearance. Pan Oceanic yachts feature heavily built fiberglass hulls and rich interior woodwork. All the boats do share a fine pedigree - they were all designed by renowned naval architect Ted Brewer.

I was impressed with the storage and build quality of these boats. The particular boat I viewed was built in the Philippians, which according to the owner, was a better yard than some of the Taiwan yards of the same time. It boat was very solid indeed.

Being flush deck there is plenty of room below. The pilot house is open and filled with light. Below the flush deck really takes shape giving a unbroken rail to rail look in some areas. There is a web site for owners at www.panoceanic.net. You can find plenty of layout information here and more specifics on the design.

All said this boat would make a great blue water cruiser in my opinion. I would like to sail her to see how she does in light airs which is important to me. This design remains an option for us.

I am happy to speak very frankly about sailing, living aboard, living in the Caribbean, leaving the US system, or any other topic you want to discuss. I have watched many people come and go from boating in the time I have been living aboard, both those living on smaller boats and those living on 110 foot mega yachts. It seems that many people come expecting tropical paradise and are shocked to find paradise is not always what you see in the pictures but includes some mosquitoes, huge bugs, poverty, stray dogs, crime, drugs, and many other problems left out of the tourist photos.
