Lighting System, House and Navigation

The lighting system on Nadagato consists of reading lights mounted on bulkheads and overhead lights mounted on headliner panels.  In most cases the overhead lights mounted on headliner panels are used as house lighting and are controlled by bulkhead mounted switches that control groups of lights for entire areas of the cabin.

All lighting is controlled by 4 breaker switches on the master control panel, these are FORWARD, SALOON, GALLEY & ENG ROOM, and AFT LIGHTS.  In all cases these breaker switches also control electricity to the fans in the named areas.

State Rooms and Heads Operation

Each state room and head has overhead mounted lights on the headliner that are controlled by bulkhead mounted switches much like a house.  As well each state room has reading lights that operate individually.

Saloon Operation

The saloon contains four overhead mounted lights on the headliner and multiple reading lights.  The two overhead mounted lights on the lower level headliner and the two overhead lights mounted on the upper headliner are used as house lighting.  These lights are controllable by bulkhead mounted switches.  Reading lights are operable on an individual basis.

Light mounted on headliner is used as house lighting.  The master panel switch and the light switch must be on, then the light is operable by bulkhead mounted switches.

Reading lights are provided throughout the saloon.   These are operated individually.

Galley Operation

In the galley there are 4 overhead lights mounted on the headliner, 3 over the REFIR/STOVE area and 1 mounted over the sink.  The center light above the REFIR/STOVE area has a red tint and can be used under passage to maintain night vision.  In addition to the 4 overhead lights two reading lights are provided overlooking the REFIR and STOVE.

Need Input?

I am happy to speak very frankly about sailing, living aboard, living in the Caribbean, leaving the US system, or any other topic you want to discuss. I have watched many people come and go from boating in the time I have been living aboard, both those living on smaller boats and those living on 110 foot mega yachts. It seems that many people come expecting tropical paradise and are shocked to find paradise is not always what you see in the pictures but includes some mosquitoes, huge bugs, poverty, stray dogs, crime, drugs, and many other problems left out of the tourist photos.
