Fresh Water System Including Water Maker

The fresh water system is pressurized by one ShurFlow pump with a self regulating adjustable pressure switch.  Water is supplied to the pump from 5 tanks which are plumbed through a freshwater manifold.  The freshwater manifold is located under the cabin sole starboard side just forward of the fridge door.  This manifold selects which tanks feed the pump and can also cut off all supply to the pump.  There is an expansion tank located in the forward starboard corner of the engine room.

There is a 16 gallon per hour RO water maker installed in the 3rd state room.  This unit runs off of 110V a/c power and has control panels mounted under the 3rd state room storage cabinet.  This water maker only feeds the Port Saloon tank.

Tank -- Capacity (us gallons) -- Deck Fill Location -- Overflow

Fwd Stbd V birth - 25 - Stbd Forward - Fwd Basin
Fwd Port V birth - 25 - Port Forward - Fwd Basin
Port Saloon - 75 - Port Mid-ships - Aft Basin
Starboard Saloon - 75 - Stbd Mid-ships - Fwd Basin
Aft under bunk - 50 - Port Aft - Aft Basin
TOTAL:     250 Gallons

The hot water tank is a Force 10 11 gallon model powered by 110V AC or via an engine heat exchanger.  It is located above the generator in the aft section of the engine room pod.  The water heater is accessed through the upper door on the starboard aft side of the center pod area.  To remove the water heater one must first remove all removable fittings from the heater due to the small access door used for removal and installation.

Water Maker Operation

  • Assure no oil in water around boat
  • Assure 110V power is available via the Generator or shore power
  • Assure selector valve on water maker is in "REJECT"
  • Assure both low pressure and high pressure pump switches are on
  • Assure pressure regulator is setup
  • Turn on "H2O MAKER" switch on main panel
  • Monitor salinity until it lowers then switch the selector valve to "TANK"

Water Pump Operation

Fresh water pressure is provided by:

  • FRESH WATER PUMP

Water Heater Operation

120V water heating is accomplished by:

  • Assure 120V AC is provided by either shore power or the generator
  • WATER HEATER switch ON

Fresh Water Wash Down Pump Operation

There is a fresh water wash down pump located under the third staterooms bunk on the forward bulkhead.  It is a self priming diafragam pump that hooks to the house water system via a ball valve that must be turned on for use.

The outlet for the fresh water wash down is on the port side deck near the aft end of the bow pulpit.  This outlet is near the toe rail.   It has a common hose connection with a protective black cap that is installed when not in use.

The fresh water wash down pump is operated by:

  • Place the "WASH DOWN PUMP" switch in the ON position
  • House water must be on as well with the "FRESH WATER PUMP" switch on
  • Rotate ball valve found under the 3rd state room bunk, forward upper drawer, forward as marked

Recommended Maintenance

TASK -- Frequency
Check pre pump filter -- 3 months unless known contamination
Chlorinate Tanks -- As needed if using non Chlorinated water

I am happy to speak very frankly about sailing, living aboard, living in the Caribbean, leaving the US system, or any other topic you want to discuss. I have watched many people come and go from boating in the time I have been living aboard, both those living on smaller boats and those living on 110 foot mega yachts. It seems that many people come expecting tropical paradise and are shocked to find paradise is not always what you see in the pictures but includes some mosquitoes, huge bugs, poverty, stray dogs, crime, drugs, and many other problems left out of the tourist photos.
